Kevin Sheehan is President and Chief Executive Officer of ORIX Venture Finance LLC (“OVF”), a part of ORIX Finance. The OVF business focuses on making senior secured loans to mid- to later-stage companies backed by venture capitalists and private equity sponsors.
Before joining ORIX, Mr. Sheehan was a corporate transactional attorney from 1997 to 2000 at the law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York, focusing on M&A work for financial institutions. He has worked on transactions such as the mergers of Bank of America and Nations Bank; Bank One and First Chicago; Deutsche Bank and Bankers Trust; and Berkshire Hathaway and General Re, as well as AT&T’s sale of the universal card business to Citigroup. Prior to that, Mr. Sheehan was a corporate transactional attorney at the law firm of Davis, Polk & Wardwell, also in New York, working primarily with the Morgan Stanley Group.
Prior to going into private law practice, Mr. Sheehan was a special assistant to the Under Secretary of State for International Security Affairs in the U.S. Department of State from 1989 to 1992, with special responsibilities for administering the U.S. government’s security assistance and arms transfer program. He has served as an officer in the U.S. Army in the United States and Europe, and commanded infantry soldiers in West Berlin. Mr. Sheehan also served as law clerk to Judge Stanley Sporkin (U.S. District Court, District of Columbia) from 1996 to 1997.
Mr. Sheehan received a BS degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University, and a JD from Columbia University. He is a member of the bar of the states of New York, Connecticut and the District of Columbia.
